Description
25th page of my Explorer's Notebook for the Animal of the Month Event at
This is one of the most awesome eagles ever, and not only because of its size (wingspan of 2.5 meters and body length of about 1 meter), but also because of its truly impressive beak and talons! Also, the white patches on an otherwise jet-black body give it an instantly recognizable look It's a wonderful hunter, and it lives on the coasts of Russia and Japan, migrating between both countries... Its status is vulnerable, mostly because its habitat and food are diminishing in Russia. However, it's truly protected in Japan, and in some places in Russia, too, so there's good hope for the species!
About the pose: when I was googling for references, I saw a picture showing a Steller's Sea Eagle walking on the ice, its feathers ruffled by the icy wind and thought it looked quite adorable... so there you are!!
made with:
Faber Castell Black Markers
Various colored pencils
